Zoee is a watercolor painter, currently based in Bellevue. Art and nature is an important part for her life since a young age. She grew up in a beautiful town in Southern China and trained under a Chinese traditional painter at a young age. After grown up, she moved to United States to study animation in University of Pennsylvania, and then moved to Seattle after graduation.
Her memory of misty but sometimes sunny scenes of hometown resonates with pacific northwest quite well. This conscious or subconscious link moved her to incorporate eastern sumi-e style into western watercolor painting style. When she paints, she likes to focus on capturing light and mood, and also has a big affection on interesting curves in the scene. She is very drawn to enlightening colors in nature as well. As a software engineer and an artist at the same time, she understands how art’s therapeutic power can help current hyper-busy working class with their daily stress and troubles in life, she would love to contribute her effort to that cause through her art.
Peace, enlightening, less is more, my eastern influenced self. Bold, free, alive, my western influenced self. And here I am, watching my shadow in the east and my other shadow in the west, slowly merging into one, hopefully. If paint is the sun, then it is the best medium to form coherence between my shadows, bring my ideal self onto paper. This is what my art is about, a kind of ideal lifestyle, my kind of ideal lifestyle, maybe yours too. It is a slow one, with a lot of time reserved for self discovery. It is a fluid and ever changing one, where I believe everything will come together naturally. Feel it with your heart, maybe you will find something resonating.
When I paint, I try to capture the essence of the scene using as least strokes as possible, put some moody colors on paper and go from there. Just relax, everything will come to terms naturally.
